“Technically, I’m not Spanish,” she said. “I’m from North of Spain, in a place called Basque Country.” She explained that they are independent of Spain, then demonstrated the differences in their languages. They were quite similar but distinguishable.
Spanish is beautiful to listen to, but Basque has its own, distinct charm. So does Maia; in all honesty, I wouldn’t have cared for a small autonomous community north of Spain if she didn’t have a glimmer in her eyes as she told me about it.
